Creepy Couture? Blinged Out Beetle Broaches

I remember an episode of America's Next Top Model that aired some years ago. Tyra Banks, persistent in her model hazing challenges, required the contestants to hit the catwalk wearing live bugs as jewelry. I thought to myself, "This is a great way to weed out the weaklings, but bugs as jewelry? There's no way anybody's doing this in real life."
Little did I know, that the fad of wearing crawling baubles has been around for centuries! A recent article on Yahoo news revealed that there are people out there who are making six legged brooches into fashion statements and wearable pets. There's even a company that sells what's called (...gag) the "Roach Broach" made from live giant Madagascar hissing cock roaches. See for yourself after the jump.

Million Hoodie March for Trayvon Martin

I'd like to go a bit off topic today and share a brief video covering the peaceful "Million Hoodie March" rally that was held in Los Angeles this Monday 26th, 2012. It's gotten to a point where you can't turn on your tv or go online and not see the news surrounding the death of 17 year old Trayvon Martin. The tragedy has made international headlines, spawning heated debates on whether or not justice was served following the death of this young man.
It becomes more and more sad as details of the case continue to become public, so I thought I would share something a little positive. I have my opinions on the matter as do many of you, but the purpose of this video is simply to show the true unity that can be formed between people of all backgrounds, races and nationalities in the face of tragedy. ~vK

Nas Mayan Inspired Chain

Nasir Jones has officially shut the chain game down.
The Legendary Nas unveiled a new pendant, made exclusively by Jason of Beverly Hills, during his performance at the South By Southwest Festival (SXSW) earlier this month that will have chain lovers drooling.
The pendant boasts over a kilo of 18k gold and is covered in flawless white diamonds. It features a 3D bust of Chichen Itza, the ancient Mayan pyramid that sits at the historic archaeological site in Mexico. One of the most impressive features is the spot-on, replica engraving of the Mayan calendar on the back of the piece.
The streets are already buzzing about the new album, "Life Is Good", but right here, you can get your first close up look at the piece that caused a "chain reaction" at SXSW.

Bedazzled Brows for Chanel?

At this year's Paris Fashion Week, Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld sent his muses down the runway in the upcoming ready-to-wear F/W collection, with some very striking accessories: rhinestone eyebrows.  Now, don't get me wrong. I love a strong brow. And I will even say that dark hued crystals on the brows added to the overall look of Lagerfeld's show, which looked like the most stylish party on planet Krypton.
But show of hands, (be honest) how many of you will be rocking Bedazzled eyebrows next season?
Here's more of the Chanel fall line inside.

Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell Victim of Jewelry Theft

'Backstreet's Back'-- well, in the news anyway. And not regarding any new comeback albums (sorry W.G.
Sad news for former boy band singer, Brian Littrell; he has recently become the target of an unknown jewelry thief and reportedly lost 120,000 dollars worth of diamond jewelry over the weekend. He and his wife Leighanne forgot to grab their jewels off the night stand before checking out of their Georgia hotel on Sunday, March 4th, only to return 15 minutes later to find everything gone. The really awful part is that one of the missing items was his wife's six carat canary diamond wedding ring that Littrell designed for her himself worth upwards of 110,000 dollars. Ouch.
We hope that the couple's items are returned to them safely before they end up being hawked on the Backstreets of Atlanta. Especially when its something that is worth so much sentimental value.
Worst case scenario, there are always other options Brian...~vK

Basso and Brooke Fall/Winter Collection

Oooh, I see fashion.
The Basso and Brooke Ready to Wear Fall/Winter 2012 Collection screams... well it just SCREAMS! I'm already a sucker for anything in houndstooth, but this collection goes beyond color and uses an explosion of otherwise mismatched patterns as a pallet to create these beautiful pieces. Every look appears to have a life of its own and literally jumps off of the fabric.
Even the First Lady, Michelle Obama gave the brand her official seal of approval; she rocked a piece from the designers Spring 2009 collection at the Poetry, Music and Spoken Word event at the White House and looked absolutely stunning. And surprisingly, the outfit didn't overwhelm her, it in fact made her radiate even more, which is how we feel about this new installment.
Check out a ton more pics and video from the Basso and Brooke fashion show that took place earlier this month after the jump.
