Bedazzled Brows for Chanel?

At this year's Paris Fashion Week, Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld sent his muses down the runway in the upcoming ready-to-wear F/W collection, with some very striking accessories: rhinestone eyebrows.  Now, don't get me wrong. I love a strong brow. And I will even say that dark hued crystals on the brows added to the overall look of Lagerfeld's show, which looked like the most stylish party on planet Krypton. 

But show of hands, (be honest) how many of you will be rocking Bedazzled eyebrows next season?

Basso and Brooke Fall/Winter Collection

Oooh, I see fashion. 

The Basso and Brooke Ready to Wear Fall/Winter 2012 Collection screams... well it just SCREAMS! I'm already a sucker for anything in houndstooth, but this collection goes beyond color and uses an explosion of otherwise mismatched patterns as a pallet to create these beautiful pieces. Every look appears to have a life of its own and literally jumps off of the fabric.

Even the First Lady, Michelle Obama gave the brand her official seal of approval; she rocked a piece from the designers Spring 2009 collection at the Poetry, Music and Spoken Word event at the White House and looked absolutely stunning. And surprisingly, the outfit didn't overwhelm her, it in fact made her radiate even more, which is how we feel about this new installment.

There's nobody in pop culture that wears his jewelry better than Kanye West-- HANDS DOWN! Much like his music, Ye thinks outside the box with his clothes as well as his jewelry. More importantly he's been consistently versatile with his style throughout his career.

Sometimes he let's the the clothes accessorize the jewels. 

And sometimes the jewels are the accessory.

Either way he's not afraid to push the envelope. It's funny how Kanye hit the stage about a year ago with 10 or so yellow gold chains stacked on top of each other and people ripped him to shreds. They immediately went in on the Mr. T jokes only to find themselves a year later wearing the same thing. 

I personally can't wait to see where he's headed next as far as jewelry trends. Of course, the jeweler in me would prefer that he actually give me a chance to make the pieces for him. -JA

Red bottoms?

I pose a question to consumers of luxury goods. Which is more important: knowing the value of what you purchase, or knowing that everyone else knows you have expensive taste?  Can someone please explain to me this "red sole" epidemic that is spreading wildly across pop culture? For you cave dwellers among the far reaches of the Cambodian jungle, the red soles I speak from that of shoe designer Christian Louboutin, not to be confused with Christian Audigier. 
(or is it?)

At first glance the shoes are absolutely stunning in appearance with their vicious curves and scarlet soles, not to mention, they are made with the finest materials on earth. But ask even the most loyal buyer and they'll admit that "walking in a pair of Loubs feels like walking across barefoot across a junkyard littered with nails". Just ask my wife who has her podiatrist on speed dial.
But to most, at the end of the day, it's allllllll worth it. Why? Because all of their friends will recognize the infamous red bottoms, even tho they're probably walking away with just barely enough change to keep the parking meter valid for another 12 minutes. 
Wear shoes that make you feel good for you, not for others. With or without the red soles.

Now where do I go to buy those shoes for myself? I heard that the black leather spike men shoes are awesome !!!!! -JA

Enough with all this matching. 

I just returned from a 4 day business trip, and I can't help but notice people's infatuation with obsessively matching when it comes to their wardrobe. The belt matches the socks, the shirt matches the tie, the jacket matches the pants. 

Uhhhhh...WHY? Because a 60yr old sales clerk from JC Penny's has set the tone for today's fashion? People match because it gives them a guideline on how to not look stupid. Its safe. Instead let's try to follow the guidelines that allow you to look like you. Follow the fashion rules that best communicate your personality or how you are feeling. The same principle can be applied to jewelry. Don't be afraid to mismatch metals and stones to give a more eclectic look.

Show Us Your Teats: Cow Nipple Couture

London-based British fashion designer, Rachel Freire, has animal rights activists screaming for her hide at Paris Fashion Week for some awesomely bizarre new looks made from, well...cow nipples.
UK animal rights group Viva say that, much like the use of fur, nips are just no place for the runway. But before you wail, "SAVE THE TATAS", Freire defends her use of 3000 cow and yak nipples as creating art from recycled waste.

NEWS FLASH: Katy Perry is a killer.
Not so much a killer, but she is certainly slaying on the cover of the latest Vanity Fair. I've been seeing this image floating around online for a few days, so I immediately rushed down to the neighborhood mag stand and snatched up a copy to get a better look.
The spread, shot by photog genius Anne Leibowitz and styled by Jessica Diehl, is vision after breathtaking vision.

I can never get enough of a man an a perfectly tailored suit. 

Add to that, an athletic 6 foot 7 frame, and we're talking magnifique. Since the NBA began enforcing an official dress code for players involved in any league related business, the style wars amongst players like Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James has gotten, well, pretty fierce.

It's becoming more common to see your favorite athlete in Tom Ford swag from head-to-toe, and as you are admiring the best dressed man in the room, you'll notice his so necessary diamond lapel pin from Jason of Beverly Hills.

With the shifty weather we are experiencing here in L.A., its hard to tell what season we are in. Sure, we've been having those too-perfect, California sunshine days since February. But just when you thought you were about to slide into those bikini bottoms, the relentless rain appears and you're left wishing you hadn't put away your heavy coats and those sicking boots you bought last fall. 
Which brings me to the Lanvin Fall/Winter 2011 collection, shown at Paris Fashion Week. Mix a few pieces from this collection into your wardrobe a little early this year while suffering the vacillating weather.

Friday Fashion: Wardrobe Stylist Holly Suan Gray

A world without wardrobe stylists would be a boring one.

Your favorite magazines would be filled pages with incohesive laundry. The catwalks would have no story to tell. 

There would be no meat suits at award shows. 

We sometimes forget the people that work behind the scenes with every designer, fashion icon, photographer, movie director and so on that help mold trends and influence our everyday style. They arrange garments, jewelry (and the occasional pork chop) to make bold statements that are audible by way of the things that we wear. When done correctly it truly becomes an art form and we appreciate them for what they do.

Today I'd like feature an amazing British freelance stylist by the name of Holly Suan Gray, whose portfolio took my breath away. It was difficult narrowing down my list of favorites among her dozens of editorials that are styled to perfection. I can show you better that I can tell you after the jump.
