How To Avoid Purchasing Garbage Jewelry by Jason Arasheben

Jason Arasheben- CEO Jason of Beverly Hills
"I know diamonds and I understand quality".
This is something that I hear from clients on a regular basis. The fact of the matter is, most people don't know shit about diamond quality. They're simply trying to impress their jeweler, only to be made fun of as soon as they walk out the store. A common misconception that you can tell a diamonds clarity without a jewelers loop, or with the naked eye, is about as logical as saying that you can tell if a girl is a virgin just by looking at her-- IMPOSSIBLE and downright ignorant.
I'll save you the trouble of having to go to jewelers school and give you some tell-tail signs of shit quality jewels. At the very least, it'll allow you to sound more intelligent when your speaking to your jeweler.

Nas Mayan Inspired Chain

Nasir Jones has officially shut the chain game down.
The Legendary Nas unveiled a new pendant, made exclusively by Jason of Beverly Hills, during his performance at the South By Southwest Festival (SXSW) earlier this month that will have chain lovers drooling.
The pendant boasts over a kilo of 18k gold and is covered in flawless white diamonds. It features a 3D bust of Chichen Itza, the ancient Mayan pyramid that sits at the historic archaeological site in Mexico. One of the most impressive features is the spot-on, replica engraving of the Mayan calendar on the back of the piece.
The streets are already buzzing about the new album, "Life Is Good", but right here, you can get your first close up look at the piece that caused a "chain reaction" at SXSW.

Beardgang. Ask About It.

The Beardgang. Say what you will about excessive facial hair, but these guys are growing in numbers. The intimidating stare of a man with a massive beard is known to send some running for the hills. But as they say, you can either 'run with them, or run from them'.
To wear a facial badge of such unbridled self assurance doesn't come easy to all. It's not for everyone. The sad examples of patchy, girlie man beards just go to show the lengths that some will go to achieve such stature. The fact is, that Beardgang 'membership has its privileges', among many include the undeniable fact that the ladies love their ambience.
Now, in spirit of the gang, a diamond pendant has been forged in the likeness of their bearded leader, Adam Goldston by none other than (beardless) jeweler, Jason of Beverly Hills. See more after the jump. If you have the FUR.

Jason Arasheben- CEO of Jason of Beverly Hills
A few months ago I was asked to write a review of what jewels to expect to be worn on the red carpet of the 2012 Golden Globes. Sounds like a great opportunity right?
Well, after I did some research of past Golden Globes, boredom quickly gave me an open handed pimp slap in the face. I realized that I was wasting my time on this particular award show.
I felt like I was studying 5th grade history all over again. Decrepit old ladies walking down the red carpet wearing the same style jewels my great grandmother wore to my grandmothers wedding. The jewels were flat out boring.
Don't get me wrong, many of the pieces were made with amazing attention to detail and flawless craftsmanship, but I like to be surprised and inspired by something I haven't seen before.

I'm officially turning my efforts to the Grammys. That's more my cup of tea! What do you think? -JA

Jason Arasheben- CEO of Jason of Beverly Hills

There's nobody in pop culture that wears his jewelry better than Kanye West-- HANDS DOWN! Much like his music, Ye thinks outside the box with his clothes as well as his jewelry. More importantly he's been consistently versatile with his style throughout his career.

Sometimes he let's the the clothes accessorize the jewels.
And sometimes the jewels are the accessory.
Either way he's not afraid to push the envelope. It's funny how Kanye hit the stage about a year ago with 10 or so yellow gold chains stacked on top of each other and people ripped him to shreds. They immediately went in on the Mr. T jokes only to find themselves a year later wearing the same thing.

I personally can't wait to see where he's headed next as far as jewelry trends. Of course, the jeweler in me would prefer that he actually give me a chance to make the pieces for him. -JA

STK Celebrates One Year Anniversary at The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas

Arguably the hottest restaurant in Vegas and definitely one of my favorites, swanky steakhouse STK celebrated their first year at the Cosmopolitan Hotel this Monday. The popular hangout spot has had a strong year, hosting many nights packed with A-listers and celebs who have a taste for fine dining and great music. It's almost impossible not to nod your head along with the DJ over your meal in their sexy club-like atmosphere.

Dots, On Dots, On Dots: Damien Hirst Exhibit

Explaining to a friend why I would spend my evening staring at dots is a bit challenging.
"They're *bleeping* dots, what's the big deal?"
I was at a loss. At the time, all I knew about the famous "Spot Paintings" by Damien Hirst was exactly that. They were just effin dots. In some cases, million dollar dots. I rushed over to the Gagosian Gallery to investigate. I needed to find out what was so special about these paintings and why on earth anyone would spend fortunes on something that you can't drive, wear or experience. Even as a Hirst fan, I needed to be able to answer with something more substantial than "it's ART".

Follow the dots inside to see more from my night at the museum for the opening of the "Complete Spot Paintings Collection 1986-2011".

Red bottoms?

Jason Arasheben- CEO Jason of Beverly Hills
I pose a question to consumers of luxury goods. Which is more important: knowing the value of what you purchase, or knowing that everyone else knows you have expensive taste?  Can someone please explain to me this "red sole" epidemic that is spreading wildly across pop culture? For you cave dwellers among the far reaches of the Cambodian jungle, the red soles I speak from that of shoe designer Christian Louboutin, not to be confused with Christian Audigier.
(or is it?)

At first glance the shoes are absolutely stunning in appearance with their vicious curves and scarlet soles, not to mention, they are made with the finest materials on earth. But ask even the most loyal buyer and they'll admit that "walking in a pair of Loubs feels like walking across barefoot across a junkyard littered with nails". Just ask my wife who has her podiatrist on speed dial.

But to most, at the end of the day, it's allllllll worth it. Why? Because all of their friends will recognize the infamous red bottoms, even tho they're probably walking away with just barely enough change to keep the parking meter valid for another 12 minutes.
Wear shoes that make you feel good for you, not for others. With or without the red soles.

Now where do I go to buy those shoes for myself? I heard that the black leather spike men shoes are awesome !!!!! -JA

I Challenge You

-Jason Arasheben
CEO Jason of Beverly Hills
I challenge you!
From the time I was a snotty nosed 8-year old, I always looked for challenges to inspire me; nothing has changed since. It's a great challenge that gets me up each morning when I know I’d rather slam the snooze button another 73 times!

Thousands of pieces of diamond jewelry go in and out of my factory each year. The ordinary requests of tennis bracelets and diamond stud earrings are great, but nearly every mom and pop jewelry store could make it with one finger up their nose and one eye closed. I need a challenge! Clients come and go, but once every blue moon a client peeks my interest and commissions me to do something creative, something out of the box, in other words… A CHALLENGE!!!
I LOVE IT!!!
This week’s challenge: an Egyptian tomb pendant adorned with black, cognac and white diamonds with a removable white diamond mummy that can be worn as a separate piece. Challenge accepted.

Who's next? -JA

Passing Trends

David Beckham early 2000

-Jason Arasheben
CEO of Jason of Beverly Hills
When it comes to today's growing trends, there’s one adage that always holds true; The quicker the rise the harder the fall! This is most evident with fashion trends. From bell bottoms, to "Cross Color Jeans", to throwback jerseys; all fashion trends that witness meteoric rise quickly, suffer for it and become laughable just a few years later.
And guess what? Jewelry is no exception!
