Friday Fire: Black Diamond Plug

Black Diamond Plug- info@jasonofbh.com

By no means will this darling little diamond plug charge your Blackberry, and I wouldn't advise going near a wall outlet with any bright ideas.
But this new Jason of Beverly Hills accessory will surely electrify your ensemble!

...I should probably get the electric chair for that shockingly bad analogy, but this piece is pretty clever.

Happy Friday ~vK

And now, a word from El Jefe...

THIS IS NOT JEWELRY!!!!!
(FAIL)

What is going on nowadays?
Long gone are the days where people actually took pride in the jewels they are wearing and long gone are the days that jewelers took pride in what they are making.

More now than ever are you seeing the Nuevo rich in the entertainment industry and beyond dig (not too deep) into their pockets to fork over a few dollars for some GARBAGE they dare to call fine jewelry so they could SHINE! Is it worth it? These people are paying money for garbage that has zero, let me repeat …… ZERO value!

If you want the look of flashy jewelry without shelling over big bucks, do me a favor and just buy CZ’s and silver so you don’t waste thousands on product that has close to zero residual value. I’m seeing more and more pieces being made by so-called jewelers using 8 karat gold or even just alloy!! 8 karat gold isn’t even legally considered gold. Jewelers are using clarity enhanced diamonds and just plain old low quality diamonds that can be mistaken for frozen spit!

Years ago jewelers took pride in their craftsmanship and looked at their work as a reflection of them. Now jewelers are trying to just trying to capitalize off of a new young market that simply don’t know better. I don’t entirely fault jewelers for servicing a market to feed their families. I guess I am frustrated that there’s a growing number of consumers that are simply uneducated in jewelry before making a purchase and they are making stupid decisions with their money.

I’m not saying everyone has to buy diamond jewelry from Jason of BH because there are plenty of incredible jewelers out there (you know who you are). I am just encouraging buyers to educate themselves on what exactly they are purchasing. Take the time to learn the difference between good setting and bad, alloy and gold, and low versus high quality stones. Believe me, there isn’t much to it. There aren’t consumer reports for personal jewelers so each buyer needs to take an hour and study what their buying before potentially spending thousands on some garbage piece that is worth virtually NOTHING!!!

Yes, I know you want to shine; yes, I know you want the girls to notice you, but take my advice, save your money and buy right, buy quality. This way you have an asset that holds value instead of a large piece of tin and an empty wallet…. Thank you!

Press: Wall Street Journal puts fake jewelry on blast

Well, it was only a matter of time before the "Bling" wars took it to the next level.

Once upon a time, a guy could get away with a Herringbone or two and he was the man. If you had gold rope (or five), you were certified. Fast forward to '98 and it was mandatory to stay iced up. "If it cost less than twenty it don't look right on me"-- BG, Cash Money Millionaires

Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, people lost sight of what it meant to rock real jewelry because now it's all about BIGGER and FLASHIER with no substance. With the suspect-fruity pebble-jewels that are floating around the club, in the latest music videos and on hip hop blogs these days, it has become clear that folks have been getting away with wearing pieces that are, shall we say, not so fresh.

Until now.
My heart leaped when I read a recent article in the Wall Street Journal titled: "Culture of Bling Clangs to Earth as the Recession Melts Rappers' Ice". I suppose it took the recession to finally put the foolishness on blast-- Long overdue. (

In a nutshell, the article spoke on how many people are dooping their fans and peers because lets face it; everyone seems to be "blinging", but not everyone's pieces are legit. But once again, guys have found a way to literally "outshine" their opponents by calling out those wearing fake jewels.

Not mentioning any names, but rappers have gotten tech savvy with their dissing by bringing out diamond testers to prove the validity of their stones. Drum roll please...
My hopes are that this will eventually put an end to all of the hallow boasting among grown men with something to prove. Owning a dozen glittery chains is nothing to brag about when it's a lie. One day we can get back to appreciating the beauty and rarity of precious stones as well as fine craftsmanship that goes into making the unbelievable pieces that are made for those that can afford it appeal to quality over quantity.

Jason of Beverly Hills believes in a fine balance of both. More and more diamond lovers are seeking out jewelers who only specialize in the OFFICIAL. I'd expect nothing less from a real boss.
